The Clay County News in Sutton, Neb., the best weekly newspaper in its class the past two years, is seeking a community journalist who will specialize in local coverage. The paper covers 11 communities and three schools. Sutton, population 1,501, is located an hour west of Lincoln and south of Interstate 80.
The ideal candidate will have the basic journalistic tools: strong writing ability, good communication skills and the desire to find and report stories that matter, according to Tory Duncan, the paper’s managing partner. You must be willing to do it all – cover events, write stories, take photographs (news and sports) and design pages – even make occasional sales calls. Multimedia skills are a plus, though not required.
Expect to work evening and weekend hours and be willing to immerse yourself into the communities and schools throughout coverage area.
Qualifications: A degree in journalism or related field is preferred; familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop a plus. Photography skills are also desired.
