1014, the Doane magazine produced by students, is a finalist in one of the categories of the Best of Collegiate Design Pinnacle Awards, sponsored by College Media Association.

This marks the first time any Doane publication has been nominated for a national award. Doane’s entry, “Dreaming of Diamonds,” is a story, written by senior Alex Dawson, about how two aspiring baseball players from the Dominican Republic and Colombia found each other in Crete, Neb. Photos were taken by alum Nate Knobel and the story package was designed by alum Heather Husen. The package was nominated in the Best Magazine Sports Page/Spread.

Other finalists for Best Magazine Sports Page/Spread are Quinnipiac University and SUNY Plattsburgh. The winner will be announced at the National College Media ConventionOct. 29-Nov. 2 in Philadelphia.
