Student papers scurry to make ends meet

Student media at large universities are scrambling to make ends meet now that disruptive digital technology is finally taking hold on how college students receive news, as this New York Times story shows.

Make your mark with SPJ’s Mark of Excellence Award

The Society of Professional Journalists has announced the deadlines for its student journalism award category:

Mark of Excellence (collegiate) – These awards recognize the best in student professional journalism in categories covering radio, television, print, newsletters, online, art/graphics and research.https://www.spj.org/a-moe.asp. Submissions accepted Nov. 5, 2013 – Jan. 24, 2014.All first place regional winners advance to the national competition and are recognized at SPJ Spring conferences. National winners are recognized on www.spj.org and receive a MOE plaque. Students in attendance at EIJ14 will be recognized at the Student Union banquet. Fees are $9.00 for members and $18.00 for non-members per entry. Non-members may join SPJ and save 50% off their entry fee.
