Look at the photo closely. See the guy in the middle of the photo, behind a camera? Yep, that’s none other than Doane alum Ziad Jaber, manning the cutaway camera for NBC News at Thursday’s press conference called by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Ziad was covering the event for NBC News. Yet another example of how Doane alums are excelling in the media world. The only question: Did he make it back across the bridge to 30 Rock in time to file his piece by deadline?

The Society of Professional Journalists has announced the deadlines for its student journalism award category:

Mark of Excellence (collegiate) – These awards recognize the best in student professional journalism in categories covering radio, television, print, newsletters, online, art/graphics and research.https://www.spj.org/a-moe.asp. Submissions accepted Nov. 5, 2013 – Jan. 24, 2014.All first place regional winners advance to the national competition and are recognized at SPJ Spring conferences. National winners are recognized on www.spj.org and receive a MOE plaque. Students in attendance at EIJ14 will be recognized at the Student Union banquet. Fees are $9.00 for members and $18.00 for non-members per entry. Non-members may join SPJ and save 50% off their entry fee.
